
Congratulations and best of luck to a trio of Nixon High School cross country runners who signed their NLI to continue their academic and cross country career at the college level.
Girls’ cross country athlete Kaitlynn Sierra signed her NLI to continue her academic and cross-country career at Texas A&M International University. She will be majoring in Nursing.
Boys’ cross country athlete Jorge Sanchez signed his NLI to continue his academic and cross-country career at Texas A&M International University. He will be majoring in Criminal Justice.
Boys’ cross country athlete Mario Guzman signed his NLI to continue his academic and cross-country career at the University of Texas at Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV). He will be majoring in Criminal Justice.

Nixon High School senior girls’ basketball player Danica Robles signed her NLI with Five Towns College in New York. Robles will be continuing her academic and basketball journey at the collegiate level.



Congratulation to LISD Student of the Month Yeikol Chapa from Nixon High School.
Chapa is the Valedictorian for the Nixon High School Class of 2024. Chapa will graduate with an overall GPA of 107.45. She is also a student at the Business, Industry, and Public Services (BIPS) Early College Academy at Nixon High School.
Yeikol’s favorite part of the school day is when she gets to go to her criminal justice class because she gets to learn about the different things going on in the world.
Yeikol’s academic accolades include National Hispanic College Board Recognition, CTE Award, Border Patrol Youth of the Month, the M.B. Lamar Medal Recipient, and the prestigious Terry Foundation scholarship recipient.
Chapa is also a standout athlete where she was Captain of the tennis team. She was selected La Estrella Deporte and received the Triple A Award.
Yeikol is involved in various organizations at school. She is the President of the National Honor Society, Vice-President of the Criminal Justice Club, a member of Spanish National Honor Society, UIL Academics, and the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council.
Outside of school Chapa is busy being a private tutor with Clever Minds STEM Tutoring Center, working as a team member at Academy Sports and Outdoors, and volunteering with National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, 911 City of Laredo, Laredo Tennis Association, and Prime Sports Camps at the Laredo Country Club.
During her free time, Yeikol enjoys playing video games, going to the gym, and reading,
This fall Yeikol will be attending University of Texas at Austin on a four-year scholarship. She will be majoring in biomedical engineering with aspirations of going to medical school to become a surgeon or orthopedic surgeon.
Yeikol the daughter of Damaris Rivera and Salvador Chapa. She attended Ryan Elementary School and Lamar Middle School.

Laredo Independent School District recognized the top JROTC students during the JROTC Honorable Cadet Ceremony hosted by Nixon High School. The Honorable Cadets are Martin High School’s Jose Gonzalez and Roberto Ibarra, Cigarroa High School’s Valeria Hernandez and Jacqueline Tapia, and Nixon High School’s Amaris Izaguirre and Briana Morales. The students were named LISD’s Honorable Cadets for their qualities and leadership skills as cadets who demonstrate outstanding capabilities as active members of their community through service, self-discipline, responsibility, and respect. The recognition was conducted by LISD’s ROTC Program and the LISD College, Career and Military Readiness Department.

Congratulations to the Lady Mustang Powerlifting team who advanced to the State Finals. Two of our Lady Mustangs came back with a Bronze Medal. Jarethzy Balderas placed 3rd in the 242 wt. class and Kimberly González placed 3rd in the 220 wt. class.
Also Grazia Roquez placed 7th in the 242 wt. class and Jocelyn Turubiartes placed 9th.



Congratulations to the Nixon High School Lady Mustang Powerlifting Team who made history today. They are the first LISD Regional Powerlifting Team Champions. Four NHS girls’ powerlifters qualified to the State meet in Frisco.

Congratulations to Nixon High School's Alejandro Sanchez for being named the LISD February Student of the Month.
Ranked 14th in his class, Nixon High School junior, Alejandro Sanchez is definitely setting the GOLD standard established at Nixon High. He is also enrolled in the Business Industry and Public Service (BIPS) Early College Academy.
Alejandro is a member of the boys’ basketball team, Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council, National Honor Society, the Interact Club, and Vice-President of the Junior Class. Outside of school, Alejandro volunteers at LISD elementary basketball games.
Alejandro plans on attending the University of Texas at Austin to pursue a degree in the science field.
Alejandro likes spending time with his family and friends and listening to music. He is the son of Juan and Natalia Solis.

Close to 100 golfers enjoyed a fun-filled day of golf that included breakfast and lunch, door prizes, a cool goodie bag and a warm feeling from supporting LISD’s graduates on their way to college. Thanks to our sponsors and golfers LISD was able to raise money for scholarships for students from Martin High School, Nixon High School, Cigarroa High School, Garcia Early College High School, and Valdez High School.

Congratulations to Nixon High School junior Austlynn Quiroz who was declared the Grand Champion of the 2023-2024 LISD Secondary Science Fair. She won first place in the Engineering, Physics, Math, and Coding division with her science project “Bayes’ Theorem Year Two: Implementation to Society.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at LISD! LISD welcomed the holiday season with its annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony along with live performances by school cheerleaders, dance teams, bands, choir, and of course Santa Claus made a special appearance for the children..
